We Live By Faith ( Not Wealth and Health )
Christ did not come to remove poverty and sickness from the earth or from the saved.
Christ did not come to save and or protect the righteous.
Christ did not come to make the righteous healthy and or wealthy.
He came for one purpose only: TO SAVE SINNERS. Thus he came preaching and teaching the kingdom of God.
Today, it’s common among preachers in churches all over, on TV and on the internet, to preach and teach and in many ways advocate that God did not intend for you to be broke or be in poor health. The truth is; God did not intend that we should all have material wealth and never be sick in our bodies either. If God so intended, then the Prophets and other servants of old, would all be rich and always healthy. Instead what they faced were: cruel mockings, scourgings, imprisonment, temptation and slaughter. They wandered about, been destitute in caves, dens, mountains and in deserts ( Hebrews 11: 36 – 40 ). The Disciples would not have had to give up all they had in this material world to follow Jesus. Jesus in preparing them told them the following: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” ( Matthew 6:19-21 ).
They would not have had any sickness. They would have all been wealthy. They would not all be martyred, except for John. They came into this world with nothing and they certainly carried nothing out.
There is a very big effort to deceive the believer; to get the believer to shift their focus from things above ( Jesus Christ and him crucified ), to things below: Good health and wealth ( things of this world ).
It is to be noted that in most, or, in all the teachings of health and wealth; the preachers either use an Old Testament Scripture as a foundation or they at some point take you back there.
It is absolutely necessary for the believer to know the Old Testament Scriptures because it all testify of Jesus Christ; but to go back to follow or mirror the Jews of old is wrong.
Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of a new and better Covenant. It is to be noted that the New Covenant was afore mentioned before the Old Covenant under which the Jews were. In that God said to Abraham; In thy seed (as of one and not of many) shall all the nations of the earth be blessed ( Genesis 26: 4 ). All the Laws and promises to the Jews came after. The promises of health and wealth were inextricably attached to their conduct in carrying out the laws of God as was given to them in writing under the old Covenant, to be obeyed. It was a Covenant of works. We are not under works but under Grace.
We are called to be like Christ; not like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Jabez, Paul, Peter, John or any man we know or heard of; except Jesus the Christ. The example he gave us was one of love, obedience, humility and faithfulness to God and the Father by him. Our inheritance is in the world to come and while we are in this world but not of this world Christ is our inheritance. He is the inheritance of the saints in light. In other words, He is all things for us. In Him we have been made heirs and joint heirs with Him to the Kingdom of God. So then; why are we still seeking an inheritance in the earth, one that is only temporary? Is not the heavenly inheritance enough and better? Yes we work for a living and must always do so while we are on this earth. But we should not worry about what we don’t have, or what the Father has not given us in this material world; whether in health or wealth. The child of God, Christian, redeemed or what other name you choose to adopt; once saved, is still in this world, but no longer of this world. Therefore your inheritance is not of this world. We do what God calls us to do and trust Him, He will do the rest. It’s called FAITH; and he is faithful.
