My Portion

"The Lord is my PORTION"

Lamentations 3:24

This statement by Jeremiah as he was lamenting over the travails of Israel and his personal tribulations; does not say that the Lord is: one of, a part of, involved in, supplies or provides his portion. The prophet was saying: God is every bit his portion. He is his lot, He is his fate, He is his allotment, He is his inheritance. He is all that he has been, all that he is and all that he could ever hope for. The word portion has among its definition, the following: “an individual’s lot, fate or destiny”. It is translated “Cheleg” in the Hebrew language (pronounced “khay’lek”); Strong’s #OT: 2506. In the Hebrew tongue it is used to convey different meanings, two of which are: allotment and inheritance. Like Jeremiah; instead of submerging in the bath of sorrows; remembering our afflictions and miseries may our souls be humbled in us, and our understanding be enlightened to the fact that: it is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. For Jehovah himself is the sum total of our soul’s inheritance and great is His faithfulness. “The Lord is my portion” says: (1) The Lord is my Lot. (2) The Lord is my Fate. (3) The Lord is my Allotment. (4) The Lord is mine inheritance. One may choose anyone of these or choose them all, to express the sum total of this Love Divine relationship between him and his all sufficient God. This is the nature of the obligation the Lord has willed on himself for all those whom He has elected to be His own; to be called by His name. Not only is He our inheritance, but: the Lord's portion is his people (Deuteronomy 32:9). He has made you His portion. You are His inheritance. He who has made us heirs and joint heirs with Christ has sole ownership of His chosen possessions and He has granted you ownership in Himself. God who is not slack concerning His promise to His Elect; has ensured the security and maintenance of His Possessions by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who teach, guides and comforts His children. While we are a difficult people, hard of hearing, diverse and hard to please; all that we could ever hope for and wish for can be found in God who is all sufficient; the Creator of all; our Divine and worthy Portion; the INHERITANCE of all believers.

The unbelievers are not so endowed. The unbelieving have no portion in the Lord; neither are they His portion. The fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8). May we like David, be filled with such knowledge and understanding of the Holy; that we are always ready to declare:The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: you maintain my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yes, I have a goodly heritage. I will bless the Lord, who has given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons. I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices: my flesh also shall rest in hope” (Psalms 16:5-9). Believer: you have a goodly heritage, a worthy portion. An inheritance most holy; full of righteousness, and unchangeable is He, the Lord God OmnipotentNo weapon that is formed against you shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord” (Isaiah 54:17). Let us draw nigh to our INHERITANCE and be glad. Shout for joy all you that are upright in heart. Rejoice in the Lord always; and again I say, rejoice. Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. Boast in Him and declare with assurance and authority: THE LORD IS MY PORTION.
