ON WHOM DO YOU TRUST
The question is asked in Isaiah 36: 5 “Now on whom dost thou trust”? This is an important question that each of us must answer at some point in our lives. ON WHOM DO YO TRUST? For many the answer will vary from one or more persons including self, to other creatures including animals and to things man made. Many will say we trust God but have applied limits to their trust. They trust God to fix things to satisfy their discontent and their wants; praying for change to come; for God to fix things in their lives and in this sinful world that they don’t like. Hoping for God to set aside his Sovereign Will and grant their carnal desires and demands. If you find that you are so trusting, such trust is misplaced to say the least. We need to get accustomed to all the perils of this life; because it is God’s will, that perilous times must come; before the end comes. When fear, opposition, discontent, tribulations dissatisfaction, the desires of the flesh and the dictates of the world challenges our faith and seeks to override our trust in God; we need to reactivate Blind Faith; take the limits off and be ready to accept whatever God sends our way; and yet be always thankful. It’s the kind of trust that will let you, like Eli say: “It is the Lord: let him do what seemeth him good” (1 Samuel 3:18) or like Paul to the Believers in Philippi: “I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: everywhere and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4: 11 – 13). I can and will survive; I will not be destroyed.
The true Christian will gladly declare: I trust in God Almighty, the Triune God, the God of all creation, the Everlasting Father. They will always express an unfailing trust in Jesus Christ our Redeemer, who gave His life a ransom for many, taking away all their sins nailing it to the cross and who is now seated at the right hand of the Father making intercessions for the Believer. The Christian has an abiding faith, trusting in the Holy Spirit the Comforter who is always present teaching, guiding, comforting and bringing things to remembrance. The Christian thus carnal; knows that he or she faces challenges which are greater than the carnal mind can overcome; a war that with all our finest weapons we cannot begin to contest. We both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those that believe in the living God. Such trust we have through Christ; that even though the war is raging around us, we know that the battle is not ours to fight as men do fight, we instead trust in the Armory of the Almighty; for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. To trust in the Almighty is to be without fear of man; for the fear of man brings a snare: but whosoever put’s his trust in the Lord shall be safe. The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knows those that trust in him. To trust in the Lord is to be strong; for they that trust in the Lord shall be as mount Zion, which cannot be removed, but abides forever. We can trust in God because we know that God’s way is perfect; for the word of the Lord is tried and he is a buckler to all who trust in him. It is folly for mankind to trust in himself, for we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead (2 Corinthians 1:9-10); who delivered us from so great a death, and do deliver. In Him we trust that he will yet deliver us in all circumstance. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding. Let the Word of God dwell in you richly; for very word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. To trust in Him whose power is unmatched and will never be exhausted, whose love is everlasting, whose kindness will never change, whose faithfulness is great and will never fail, whose wisdom cannot be matched or surpassed, and whose perfect goodness will never diminish; for His mercies endures forever; is to have confidence and be able to declare: “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation” (Isaiah 12:2). Happy are you: dear Reader and Believer; if you are of the household of faith and this trust is yours. For by so trusting you shall enjoy sweet peace now in the midst of the storm and glory in a time appointed which is yet to come. The foundation of your trust shall never be removed, when you trust in the Lord for ever; for in the Lord JEHOVAH is everlasting strength. This is the strength that under girds our hope and builds our faith that we can declare and affirm: “Though he slays me, yet will I trust in him” (Job 13:15). Now: On Whom Do You Trust?
Grace be unto you and peace, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Love you. Be blessed.
